Los Angeles, CA (September 4, 2008) – On August 19th Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) CEO Joan Irvine was presented the 2008 Associations Make a Better World Award at American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting and Exposition at the San Diego Convention Center. ASACP won the award for its Restricted to Adults – RTA Website Label. In light of this award ASACP and RTA were issued Certificates of Recognition from California State Legislature Assemblyman Ted Lieu and California State Senator Jenny Oropeza. Both certificates congratulate ASACP for being the overall winner in the 2008 Associations Make a Better World Awards.
An estimated 6,400 delegates attended The ASAE and Center for Association Leadership’s annual meeting where Irvine was presented the award. The Associations Make a Better World Awards recognize associations that engage in compelling programs and activities that benefit communities in the United States and internationally in two categories: U.S./Developed Nations and Developing Nations. ASACP received the overall award in the U.S./Developed Nations category for its RTA website label. RTA is a free, easy to use, and internationally recognized label that designates content for adults only.
In addition to the Certificates of Recognitions from Assemblyman Lieu and State Senator Oropeza, RTA has received recognition from Congresswoman Jane Harmon and the Mayors of Los Angeles, San Diego, Redondo Beach, and the City of West Hollywood.
“It was an amazing experience to hear the Associations Make a Better World Awards announced, the first award went to an association that brings American and Vietnamese doctors together to provide free surgery to poor children in Vietnam and then the presenters stated ‘the next Associations Make a Better World award goes to an association that is funded by the adult entertainment industry.’ This award confirmed the international importance of Restricted to Adults – RTA Website Label to provide parents with the tools needed to prevent their children from viewing age inappropriate material. I was so proud for the industry, ASACP sponsors, and staff for everything they had done working together to make RTA such a success. Also, I was proud of being a member of the American Society of Association Executives for the last decade. Not many mainstream groups would acknowledge so publically that the adult industry is doing their part to protect children,” stated Irvine. “It was one of the proudest moments of my life.”
